Why parents love it: It looks impressive, but it’s actually simple. This is one of those easy winter crafts that gives a big “wow” moment for minimal effort.

Supplies

  • 1 pinecone (medium to large is easiest)

  • White paint (or glue + torn white tissue paper)

  • Paper or felt (eyes, wings, beak)

  • School glue (or hot glue for adults)

  • Optional: cotton balls, twigs, markers

Less-mess setup tip

Do this craft inside a box lid or on a baking sheet. Pinecones roll, and this keeps paint contained.

Parent payoff: Big “wow” factor for very little effort. Great for fine-motor skills.

Ages 1–2 (Parent-led)

  • Dab white paint on pinecone tips with a sponge brush (do it over a box lid to contain mess).

  • Parent adds oversized paper eyes + a simple beak.

Safety: Skip small parts (like googly eyes). Watch for pinecone pokes.
